Sedona Sacred Land
2008-07-15
By Cynthia Tierra
With its magnificent rock formations, Sedona is unlike any
other place on earth. Visitors who stare in awe at the red rocks are probably
unaware they are standing on land that was once submerged. Two billion years
ago Sedona was located near the South Pole and was part of the supercontinent
Rodinia. As geological eras passed, water subsided and with the action of
erosion, the land we know as Sedona changed its location and appearance. The
red rocks were here long before the first humans arrived in the Sedona area.Read More >>
Defiance Is Not A Dirty Word
2008-07-14
By Paul Miller
Gone today in America passing into one of those magnificent
sunset’s that so typified the Old West and its defiant spirit which for me was
so indicative of where I was born and raised, though by the time I reached
maturity acting defiantly was deemed politically, socially inappropriate and
was scorned and condemned.Read More >>
Electric Cars In Sedona
2008-07-14
By Olin Robie
The city of Sedona has the opportunity to become a national leader
in the adoption of all-electric cars.
If the City of Sedona and ADOT can agree to lower the speed limit
to 35 mph on 89A, including the section between Airport Rd and the Y, then a
type of all-electric car called a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) will
become a compelling transportation option for the many Sedonans who do a lot of
driving between the VOC, Uptown and West Sedona.Read More >>

The Birth of Tlaquepaque
2008-07-06
By Paul Miller
The birth and creation of Tlaquepaque is a collaborative
effort between my Dad, Abe P. Miller and his sister, my Aunt, Helen R. Nugent,
who though clearly not in the spot light in any form remained a most prominent
figure behind the scene. They shared a love for the simple, the
subtle, the elegant within the simplicity of design and feel. The
genesis of Tlaquepaque in part was spawned as a result of numerous trips to the
Tlaquepaque section of Guadalajara, Mexico where it was my Dad’s original
intention to capture the artesian feel which dwelled there.Read More >>
Different Perspective on charging homeowners for water
2008-07-06
By Paul Miller
In Arizona we have chosen to legally exonerate the
homeowner, upon whose property is installed a residential septic system, as a
“sacred cow” untouchable and totally unaccountable and not responsible when it
comes to the choices he makes as he uses and/or abuses this residential septic
system. Why is that…? Read More >>

2008-06-11

By Tommy Acosta
Sedona-Verde Valley Times
Proponents for the installation of 76 high-intensity light poles along 89A from Airport Road to Dry Creek Road suffered a crushing defeat last night at the Sedona City Council June 10 meeting, where the council adopted a list of 89A Pedestrian Safety Committee recommendations to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety along the 89A corridor.
The installation of 76 lights and poles originally proposed by ADOT and championed by former-mayor Pud Colquitt, was not recommended or approved.Read More >>
Adams Calls For Unity
Gets right to work
2008-06-06
By Tommy Acosta
Sedona-Verde Valley Times
Mayor-elect Rob Adams is not gloating over his narrow victory over incumbent Mayor Pud Colquitt.
Rather, he remains focused on healing the perceived divisions between his supporters and the supporters of the former mayor, a division who’s healing he sees crucial to Sedona’s future.
“I believe all of us in Sedona want the same things,” he said the day the recount affirmed his victory by a mere four votes. “I found this out while canvassing neighborhoods during my campaign. People want our government to be financially responsible, stewards of our environment and responsive to the community. I don’t want to see us divided. I want to see us unified and ready to move forward into the future. That was my idea right from the get go.”Read More >>
Recount Affirms Adams’s Mayoral Victory

By Tommy Acosta
Sedona-Verde Valley Times
A recount by Yavapai County Election Services of the ballots cast in the City of Sedona’s May 20 mayoral election affirmed Sedona Councilman Rob Adam’s victory over Sedona Mayor Pud Colquitt by a margin of four votes, with Councilman Adams garnering 1,970 votes to the incumbent’s 1,966.
Going into the recount, held Thursday June 5, Mr. Adams held a slim, two-vote lead over mayor Colquitt. When the recount was over, approximately three hours after it began at 9 a.m., the councilman gained another vote, all but ensuring he will be Sedona’s next mayor for two more years.Read More >>

Introducing Simone Awhina
2008-06-03
Dear Reader:
I have been asked to write for this newspaper and feel
very excited about this. Before I will share my thoughts and experiences with
you in future editions, I would like to introduce myself to those who don’t
know me.
My name is Simone Awhina. I am an international
concert/recording vocalist, sound healer, motivational speaker and writer. I
was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to New Zealand with my fiancée Nico
when I was 21. We had five wonderful years there together when Nicogot very
sick and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He passed away one month after
diagnoses and six weeks before we were going to get married. We had been
together for nine years. As you can imagine, my world, the world that I was so
comfortable and familiar with, shattered and I started my journey of
discovering who I was without Nico by my side. What was it that I liked or
didn’t like? What was my path in life, what was my passion? Who was Simone?Read More >>
